Our service delivery is a triage based approach, starting with proactive safety. Through this method we aim to establish an understanding of the existing health and safety practices through a multi stage process in order to understand our clients needs.
The first step in our proactive approach is to conduct an investigation of the workplace practices through observation of current workplace practices, strategically targeted employee interviews, and a thorough documentation review of safe work procedures, job descriptions, training manuals, health and safety manuals and incident investigation process documents. This collection of data provides a comprehensive understanding of the current state of the health and safety practices and culture within the company.
Following our investigative process, we move on to the communication phase with the management of your organisation during which we bring to light discrepancies between current front line worker realities relative to organisational expectations. In addition, we review highlighted areas of improvement from the frontline workers. This communication phase also facilitates the presentation of unsafe factors which may require immediate attention to mitigate risk to workers and the organisation as a whole.
The third crucial phase of proactive safety is the mitigation phase during which we guide the process of providing an immediate set of guidelines to correct for any IDLH conditions which have been overlooked. Mitigation plans should be viewed as non-negotiable but shall include employer input (financial and work process components). In some circumstances OHS regulation require worker input. We understand the uniqueness of various organisational structures and collective agreements, and will work with the client to assist with worker engagement. We can also assist in developing transition plans from temporary mitigation protocols until problems are fully remediated.
The final phase of proactive safety is the improvement planning phase which is aimed at providing long term sustainability and at which we can assist an organisation adapt their health and safety to become high performing. We will focus upon finding a realistic balance for the workers and the employers, providing metrics based systems from which the organisation will be able to track the success of their new approach and tie back to the HOPS 5 key principles (People make mistakes, blame fixes nothing, learning is the key to improvement, context drives behaviour: how we respond matters). This improvement planning phase usually includes changes to SOP/SWP documentation, job description documents, training and hiring protocols, and supervision protocols, and frequently improves upon communication practices between employees and management within the organisation.
In addition to improving the health and safety approach of the company we also provide pre employment physical fitness screening to ensure that employee candidates are able to safely conduct their full job scope as outlined in the job description.
Should workplace incidents occur, our organisation also provides a reactive safety approach which allows us to assist with or manage incident investigation and work with an injured worker. For the purpose of incident investigation we follow industry standards whilst engaging in the HOPS principal. Should a worker be exposed or injured we provide worker assessment to determine functional capacities, outline physical limitations and provide guidance on safe job tasks for the worker, customise physical rehabilitation programming, manage a gradual return to work program with a final sign off on full return to work, with the aim of protecting the worker and returning them to full physical function as swiftly and safely as possible.
Bason and Associates also provides a comprehensive service to organisations from a reactive regulatory drive standpoint, should WSBC (BC) or WCB (AB) require changes or level fines at your organisation regarding a specific job role or workplace practice. With this approach we follow much the same approach as our proactive approach to safety, however we focus upon the specific area of concerned outlined by the regulatory board.
